Ramair filter only
#3
I was thinking of just fitting the Ramair filter too. I was interested in imporving the performance, but I like the look of the twin pipes on the back and I belive that the scoobysport backbox has a single pipe. Is that correct? I guess there would not be as big a gain with out the box fitted, but is it worth fitting just the filter without the box? Whats the going rate for a Ramair?

Yes the Scooby Box does have a single pipe, but looks a lot, lot better than the twin pipes, and once you've heard the noise it makes there is no turning back. Only annoying thing is that I have had to let a couple of people drive it so I can hear the noise!!!!!!
My advise to anyone thinking about it - stop thinking and do it!

We've just done a deal with ITG (Induction Technology Group) and will also be stocking their Impreza panel filters.
ITG have only recently started doing filters for road cars, all their work having been in Motorsport (WRC, F1, BTCC)
I think these are better made Ramair and have a good metal grid to stop any flex in the foam. The flex isn't a problem when the Ramairs are fitted correctly, but the job can be a bit fiddly... especially on an STi.
Whilst K&N give equally good performance when new, a cotton guaze filter will never maintain the performance increase as well as a good multi layer foam filter.
On the subject of filters most cone filters have a surface area of between 30,000 and 40,000 mm2 (only HKS is less than 30,000). An Impreza replacement panel filter has a filtration area of 39,750 mm2. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Pete,
Please see my question above - and also could you explain why the Ramair installation can be fiddly (UK car) - do I need to watch out for anything as I expect to be fitting one shortly.
Cheers,
.Richard
(exhaust order should be coming your way soon!)

Richard,
Because the Ramair filter body is quite flexible, if you dont get it exactly right the filter can be pulled towards the intake, this allows air past the filter down the sides. The only way I have found of putting them in is to undo the 2 large jubilee clips on the pipe from the air box and unclip all the other thinner pipes, this allows a much better shot at putting the filter in correctly.
I was down at Scoobysport and Pete has one of the ITG filters in, they are very similar to Ramair, but have a wire grid on the face of the filter, and are also stiffer.
Hope this helps

Just out of interest I found Demon Tweeks offered the best price for a RAMAir filter - £45.12 inc VAT and delivery.
They are also a damn sight cheaper for a set of Cibie Oscar +, saving about £40 on the ScoobySport price!!

Shaggy,
do the Demon Tweeks Cibies come come complete with all the necessary wiring (cut to length) , relays, connectors, and brackets etc like the Scoobysport ones ?
That's where (I hope) the extra £40 goes, and I'd say it is well worth the extra money, than spending quite a few extra hours doing it from scratch.
Having said that, some people would actually prefer to do it all themselves, but I didn't have the time.
If the Demon Tweeks ones do come with all the same kit, then I'm sure Pete would like to know

Pete's new filter will hopefully enable my car to continue its acceleration above 145MPH.
At this speed it really struggles for the last 10MPH.
With a stiffy in the box I hope that there will be no more instances of F40s and F1's blowing me away.
F355 are easy on standard Scooby Sport gear! :-)
