I recently bought a 95MY Saloon. After 10 days or so it began to run badly. The garage where I bought it have now diagnosed a holed exhaust valve after removing the head.

Has anyone else suffered this problem ?

I am keen to understand if this is cause or effect - has something else failed in order to hole the valve ? Is it likely to effect the other exhaust/inlet valves?

Any advice appreciated.

Regards
Dean

There is an excellent possibilty that the holed"exhaust valve " mentioned was the result of either a defective valve cut,or an improperly seated valve. Being in the exhaust side of things, it gets very hot. and must rest against the "cool" head in order to dissapate the 2000 degree plus heat. I suspect its a rarity. On some occasions, it can be caused by an improper cam grind as well. this allowing the valve to remain slightly open when it reaches normal operating temps, but thats incredibly rare. anyway, if it does it again, have the dealer check the cam, and the lifter for unusual wear as well.

Its also a problem with chipped cars.

Running a higher boost increases the temperature inside the combustion chamber and accelerates the wear on the exhaust valves.
