My pride and joy has suffered a "Big End" failure
Could this also be the curse of 95RON?!!

No.
(unless the petrol had been leaking past the piston rings and detonating around the con rods/big ends.

Hope it doesn't prove to be too expensive.

As a fellow 93 WRX owner I would be interested in the autopsy report.
Are you planning to upgrade replacement engine parts and if so to what level?

Mike.

Engine hasn't been fully stripped down yet, still waiting on the warranty company to examine the damage. They may opt for an engine replacement if it works out cheaper.

Torque Developments have just come out with an Impreza engine upgrade kit. Redline magazine quote it at £600. Definately worth contacting them about.

Well I'm off to Hong Kong for a few weeks and will definately be checking out all the goodies from Japan over there (might need the whole cargo hold to bring all of it back!). Hopefully my Rex will be on the road to full recovery when I get back.

Chat to you then
