After yesterdays runs at Power Engineering here are my conclusions.

We looked at the figures for a std STI V vs my modified one.

Low down ie below 3500 revs my car was the same as the std STI V.
The downpipe is giving approx 10 bhp more which is then being taken away
by the K&N filter. Above 4500 my car was giving over 18bhp more tailing off to 13bhp
more peak power.

When my car was first Rolling Roaded by Steve it gave 305 bhp. Yesterday the flywheel
figures were 293 to start with and 260 lbft. Both figures were down by approx 12. This
was without the K&N which got the figure back above 300 bhp.

When we looked however at the wheels figures they were up on the 305bhp runs.
Merv questions a little bit the runs that were made that night. Dan felt he had lost
torque with the Scoobysports back box, but as mine were lower with Merv I now
question that. Merv has a couple of reasons for the difference between his and
Steve's figures but I'm staying out of that one.

The downpipe does give more lower down but not a lot high up. However the car DOES
pick up quicker and revs to the red line quicker and better. This feeling was also
felt by Rob Mac who drove Anders car and then mine today.

How does the Downpipe fitting compare with say a full Stainless Steel Exhaust from the Turbo back with a sports cat??

Reason being, I was considering changing the exhaust system, but I don't want the hassle of having to put the CAT back for MOT etc.

I have just visited my local exhaust manufacturer, they do top quality work, everything fabricated to fit by hand.

Anybody who went to Donnington last weekend and saw my bike (Honda Blackbird) in the car park with hand built 4 into 1 exhaust will verify the quality.

He has told me £300.00 +VAT to replace both cat's with straight through pipes including fitting and retaining Lambda sensor.
(My exhaust is 3" system already).

Done in such a way that if you so wish you can change them back if required for MOT.
Mike.

The STI V only has one Cat not the two as expected.

You have to be carefull with the straight through sections. Another member who has an STI V bought a cat replacement pipe thinking he was removing one of the cats. Combined with the downpipe the noise was excesive. With the OEM unit back in place noise was reduced to acceptable levels.
