incorrect speedo reading !
Hi, just taken delivery of my 95 wrx 4 door, and the first problem of the day, is the speedo reading. It reads MPH but is not entirely accurate.
At 30mph is reads 25
At 50mph is reads 40
At 70mph is reads 60ish
Do I just have to put up with this, or can someone recommend something for me.
many thanks.

Hi - first, not saying I can help with this but others might be able to, given answers to:
1) what makes you say it's inaccurate -what are you measuring against?
2) what method of MPH conversion do you have - an add-on MPH "sticky" on the dial or have you been told the speedo sender signal has been converted to read the std. KPH dial as if it were MPH?

It looks like a an 'add on sticky'.
Measured it by following a friend in a Corrado VR6 and he flashed he hazard lights when doing the appropriate speed and I then logged my current speed.
As far as I know the wheels are standard 16"'s

Having had the car for a few days now, I have this to report.
The mile-ometer actually reads in miles so I guess that this has been converted. I did a trip yesterday that I know is exactly 12.5 miles and I did it in about 13-14 miles. Could this account for the speedo not reading 30/50/70 etc correctly (and all other speeds).
I have also noticed that when doing 70 (60 on the dash) and if I brake heavily then the speedo needle takes ages before it comes down to rest. Could it be sticking?
Also, however fast I seem to go, the needle does not go above 80
Help......

MARK it sounds like the speedo head is faulty if it only reads 80mph ,you cannot alter the speedo as your mates done with his fto because yours is a cable and not electronic.have a close look at the mph and check if its a sticker thats been added onto the original face let me know peter.

ok. so i take it that my existing speedo is crap. How feasable is it to purchase a separate speedo(small one) and attach it to the dash connected to the speedo cable.
Would this give me an accurate reading and would this be legal ?

Hey Mark....
Real bummer this kind of detail probs.
Apex-i make a rev/speed meter. Reading is digital thgh and is small enuff to sit on yer steering column...kinda tacky but u might want to try it. *dunno 'bout MOT implications thgh* Should sell for around 150 quid. Whatever u decide..Good Luck.
