I have a 98 Sti IV which on the overun in 1st gear ie: in a slow moving queue of traffic, not under acceleration, jumps out of 1st. It does not happen everytime. My car is booked in with the supplying dealer soon, however I am concerned that parts will not be availible to complete the job. Is it a gear selector problem?? any help appreciated.

JAMES the gearbox has interlock plungers which hit the selector rods these consist of a ball bearing and a spring which pushes against the ball bearing we recently had a shogun doing the same thing it turned out to be a broken spring ,

interlock springs can be checked or replaced with out the gearbox being removed on a imprezza and the springs would i guess be the same as a english spec vehicle.well worth checking before the gearbox is in a100 pieces.
peter.
