I have a 93 WRX which has been limited to 180kmh/115mph.
How can I have it de-limited ?
It also has only 15" wheels , but has had vented pads etc added .
If I change the 15's to 17's will I need change the pads as well ?

 

There are several ways in which it can be de-limited. One way is to use a gearbox adapter for the speedo cable. This converts the output from kmh to mph, and means the limiter doesn't kick into 180mph!

Others include changes to the ECU etc.

They are available from a variety of suppliers, including most of the grey importers.

If you have the 15 inch wheels, then 17 inch wheels should fit without any problems, as it's only the 4 pot calipers of the STi (and UK 99MY cars) which had 16 inch wheels as standard which have clearance problems with some wheels (eg Speedline Superturismo)

All Turbo Impreza's have always had vented front discs.

 

speedo converters are now available for the imprezza they fit where the speedo cable splits into two pieces,the vehicle will then show a mph reading on the clock and will delimit the car at the same time .

 

The car has already had the MPH speedo conversion of some description , but it still limits at 115mph !! :-(
Would your system still work in light of this ? If so how much ?

 

On earlier "greys" the limiter was a reed switch behind the speedo fascia. This can be prevented from operating, so giving the car no limiter.

I know that my speedo has a reed switch but should I short it out by putting a wire across the terminals or should i disconnect the reed switch?
(Actually I have already shorted it out but the ECU check engine light came on and I had to reset the ECU!!!!!!)
If the answer is disconnect it then any ideas how to achieve this as the speedo fits into the instrument cluster and the screws that hold the speedo in actually make contact between the reed switch contacts and the tracks on the cluster PCB.
Any ideas would be most welcome!

 

I had my STI V SVA Prep'd and this included the speedo to MPH, this is suppose to delimit the car aswell. However, I have found out that the system used on the version V is different to the IV and a seperate delimiting device is required, all version V owners and prospective owners should be aware.
