Bearing in mind that the SIDC wants official authentication by Subaru UK where does it stand on the topic of WRX's. Subaru won't have anything to do with them officially, does this mean that you won't (to try and ensure authentication from Subaru UK)?
Also, where do I get club merchandise?

Whats the bets that by this time next year Subaru UK will be selling Sti's. They cannot ignore the issue much longer and their dealers (hello justy) must be getting pretty narked off at losing so much potential income from the extra sales, and current WRX'less workshops.

Subaru Australia managed to snag 400 official STI's for 1999. I reckon that Subaru UK should be able to do the same.

My question is , where does the club stand if they want to be backed by Subaru UK?

SIDC membership is open to all Impreza owners, whether they are grey/Euro imports or UK spec cars. Anything from a 1.6 L FWD, to a 22B is fine, as long as it's an Impreza!

The clubs membership form asks whether the Impreza is a Turbo/Non-Turbo. We are still in negotiation with Subaru UK, and as soon as we have some news it will be posted.

At the end of the day is this club and BBS only meant for UK members?
I notice that there are postings from all over the world.
If the answer is that it is open to all Impreza drivers - then it should not matter whether the cars are UK spec, Japanese spec, Australian spec or whatever.
Maybe we should look at getting some recognition from Subaru themsleves, in Japan - rather from an importer only (like International Motors in the UK).
This is not a real dig at IM - but with their current short sightedness regarding servicing and spares for imports, I wonder how much interest they actually have in the car and how much in protecting an impossible position. They are certainly not doing their UK dealer network any favours by forbidding them from working on non-UK cars. The UK dealers would probably welcome the extra turnover and margin they could generate from servicing imports - and maybe able to convert owners of imports into buying a UK spec car from them in the future - once they can appreciate the level of service they can offer.

Yes IM are Definitely putting restrictions on UK dealers regarding service and parts for imports.
Certain items i.e. UK MPH speedos, service booklets and owners manuals will only be supplied to a dealer who give IM the VIN number and customer details of a UK supplied car for these parts.
As regards differences in specification between UK and Japanese cars I have a number of theories as follows:-
The Japanese spec cars may not conform to the UK/European type approval/emission tests for volume produced vehicles. If the test was originally passed on a UK/European spec vehicle and the Japanese vehicle is sufficiently different then maybe the test may need to be retaken by Subaru - this is very expensive for a vehicle that can only be sold in low volume. (Remember - IM are quota restricted and cannot sell as many cars as they want). This is why the 22Bs that they have imported have been put through the SVA test - which is designed for small volume homologation.

A 22B has 350bhp outside the UK !!.

Anders 22B which came direct from Japan not via IM or Prodrive has 280odd bhp not 350.
350 is a number dreamed up by Journalists.

Besides Steve's comments which MUST be the logical reason....Personally I think Japan has a more powerful "better" version because they want to create an export demand for their cars *used and new* thus reducing domestic scrap and depreciation. Sly buggers *no offence*

As Jonathon pointed out my car and that of my friend's came direct from Japan.
They did not go anywhere near "Slow Drive".
Mine produced 288BHP at arround 4500 miles.
It has now done 10,000 and has a Scooby sport box and Ramair filter.
The next Dyno meeting should see how much it has loosend up.
I hope for 300BHP.
