My 2 week old MY99 4dr has developed an intermittent metallic "clunking" noise from the left rear, under low speed cornering and downshifting. Can't detect it at normal speeds. An inspection by the dealership didn't find the cause and will be further investigated next week at 1000m service.

Wondering if anyone can suggest the cause? (And, no, its not the wheel jack slopping around in its bracket!)

I had a similar noise in my MY98. After talking to Days of Chelmsford, they suggested it could be a 'dry bush' (ooerr). After talking to Days, I noticed that the noise abated in wet conditions and returned in the dry which convinced me it was the suspension bush. On my 7500 mile service I asked my dealer to check this out and lubricate if necessary. They did and the noise is gone. Hope this helps.
