Hi Guys
I suffer from a hesitation problem in 4th and 5th gear which i have read many others do to. The dealers and people origionally said the boost solenoid. So i put on a manual boost controll bypassing the boost solenoid. The problem was still there. SO i checked the ecu for error code and it gave me 23 which i believe is the MAF sensor. Now the engine light doesn't come on so im wondering if maybe the sensor is just dirty. If the sensor was faulty wouldn't the engine light come on ???
Just wondering if anyone knows....

The engine light doesn't come on with a faulty MAF sensor.
Get the car on a select monitor or Delta Dash, and if the error code for a faulty MAF doesn't come up, do a full throttle run from 2000rpm to 6800rpm in 3rd, and observe the O2 sensor readings. Most stock scoob O2 sensor readings are above 0.90/0.91volts. If it's lower it could be the start of the MAF sensor going faulty because it means the engine is starting to run lean. If below 0.87volts, change MAF immediately.
If you find the readings OK, you still may have a faulty MAF sensor cos sometimes the mixtures are rich in open loop mode. The use of a Subaru select monitor from a dealer or the use of Delta Dash from someone that knows, will inform you of the problem.
Cheers,
George.
