ECU upgrade for MY96
#1
Hi All,
Can I have some advice / ideas on ECU upgrades for a MY96 please. I've just got my Scooby a couple of weeks ago, and am interested in getting a bit more out of it.
I had an Escort Cosworth before that, and had fitted a Superchip to it - which gave it a lot more Zip away from a standing start etc.
Is it just a simple case of fitting a chip to a Scooby, or is it more complicated than that ? I've had a quick look around the threads on here, but I'm a bit confused by all the differant solutions.
PS - Really good site by the way !!
Thanks
Mark

Thanks for the reply - I've tried to have a look at the ScoobyECU site, but it seems to be broken.
I thought that the ScoobyECU was a DIY thing, do you 'map' it yourself then ?

Put it this way the scoobyecu not only gives you more boost it also has modified fuel and ignition maps to account for this making it the safer option and I think you will find it has been well proven especially on SN There are other options but these will cost much much more.

Link,Gems, Autronics & Motec Ecu's (Stand-alones) are very good pieces of kit but once fitted require specialised mapping preferably on a rolling road, the Unichip is a 'piggy-back' ecu and also requires rolling road setup.
You need to weigh up the options: 1 - Do you want to spend £1000 - £2000 on a standalone whereas a scoobyecu is about £100 all in. 2 - Do you actually require a standalone with your current level of modifications. 3 - A few people on SN have managed up to about 400bhp using a scoobyecu and there is monitoring software becoming available. 4 - The standard Ecu (Pre97) is tuneable without the need for 'piggy-backs'
I am currently using a custom mapped scoobyecu on MY96 UK Wagon and am very happy with the results

Your best bet if your car is not the 96> model is a scoobyECU offered by david_wallis and scott.T..
They will put a remapped chip in your ECU for around £100..!! bargin..
The maps can either be 15.5psi or 16.5psi, you will still retain the safety mechanism of the boost solonoid too..

When you send your ECU to scott or david they fit the new chip that has been remapped... and yes the map can be changed if mods are added, this can also be done by scott or david.
Email scott as he is nearer to you, and he will send you aload of info..!
