Hi everyone.
I'm from portugal and have a impreza my98 with a problem that i can't solv. the pressure of the turbo don't pass the 15 psi's even if i take the waste gate hose. i donīt have any fuel cut defender instaled. my friends have already told me that it could be a intercooler pipe broke but i donīt hear nothing anormal. whith the waste gate hose it makes the standard pressure. Other thing that is strange is that it makes 12 psi's of vacum at 750/800 RPM. the car donīt have any changes at the motor.

other thing: can anyone tell me what's the manufacteur and model of my turbo??

Please anyone help me.

Thank's very much. keep up with the good work.

Ha have exactly the same problem with mine, cant get it to boost either. Even when the actuator pipe is off!!

Hopefully some one can give us a few ideas, Its not the turbo as ive changed that, changed the ecu and air flow meter too!

I was running 1.4 bar before it all went to pot!

Can't quite interpret the meaning of your thread but if no hoses on wastegate actuator , then assuming it to be the equivalent ot a UK spec car, then you will have a TD04 turbo.

With no hose on the actuator, boost pressure will rise to 0.5 bar (7 1/2 psi).

More info on problem?

So what could be the problem? if it's not the turbo or the ecu or the MAF what could be? the waste-gate i think it's working well. the intercooler it's fine so what could it be? whith the hose of the wastgate it's normal. whithout the hose don't pass the 15 psi's and don't even cut. i'm sad

my car is a regular impreza. 1994 cc. 211 hp. my98. just want to know what turbo do i have.is it a TD04 or a ihi thanks very much. sorry my inglish.

Question

with the hose direct from the compressor to the wastegate you'll get 0.5bar.
if it NEVER makes more than 15 with NOTHING connected to the actuator, I'd say the wastegate is not shutting.

take off the heat sheild, and have a look at the actuator arm.
basicly, there is a circlip holding it on. take this off & then pull the arm off the post. hold the wastegate post closed (towards you) & then put the arm back on. it should go on with a small bit of tention (away from you)
if not, then undo the locking nut & turn the end a few turns to shorten the rod. then repeat.

try and see what / if that fixes it.

Steve

Unhappy

With the actuator hose pulled off, surely the car should boost up to the maximum pressure the turbo can push. Which would cause the car to hit over boost??

I tried this and it still wont boost over 0.5 bar. Im running a Vf 35 !

Look in side the intercooler do you find oil in it ?
is there white or blue smoke from the exhaust?

I already take the intercooler off to see if it could be from the pipes but they are all in good shape. the smoke is normal. ther's no oil in the turbo or intercooler.

In my case the pressure don't pass 15 psi's.

With no hose attached to the wastgate actuator, it's the pressure of the exhaust gasses pressing on the wastegate which causes it to open and limit your boost.

So why it only happens with my car??i've tried to take off the wastegate hose from a impreza my98 just like mine and it hits the overboost in a second. I think the problem must be from the wastegate. tomorow i will post news.
Thanks

Ive only got one small back box, and ive tried to see if the car will boost with the back box off. It makes no difference!

It cant be my actuator as its a new Vf 35 im running!

Ive got my car booked in on the 27th @ RC Developments hopefully they might be able to sort the problem!
