Hi
car: 1997 Turbo (UK)wagon
I have just had a turbo back de-cat exhaust fitted and a K and N panel filter.
Is it important to reset the ecu?
Thanks for any help
Brett

Thanks mate.
As I understood it the ecu would gradually compensate for the changes in 'breathing' but until it had adjusted fuelling etc would it cause any problems. I didnt know if resetting the ecu when it wasn't necessary would cause any problems. Thanks for clarifying.
Car is amazing now. Such a huge difference, de-cat exhaust and free flowing panel filter must be one of the best £ per bhp mods available.
I think I might have to put it on a dyno now!
cheers

Good work fella. Glad you're enjoying! I'm just waiting for the sale of my old car before I do the same mods to mine. Although I'll probably leave the centre cat on, to save buggering about at MOT time! I'm also seriously considering an EcuTek remap. If you think your car's amazing now, and you can afford £760 ish, get yourself a remap...

I also considered leaving the centre cat in place due to MOT hassles but decided that it was only a bit of hassle once a year. Should it pass emissions with only the centre cat? Some people I have asked say yes, others say no? Whats your thoughts?
I looked into the Ecutek chip but I was informed that they could not help as my car is that little bit older. If I remember correctly it is only 1999 cars onwards that can receive the EcuTek treatment.
cheers.

I think the general rule of thumb is if your centre cat's OK, and you give the car a "good drive" before the test, it should pass OK (emphasis on the word should...!)
You're right regarding the ECU. I think you're in the unfortunate position of being too new for a ScoobyECU but too old for EcuTek! Bugger...
