Has anyone ever done or thought of doing this...
Swop the speedo/tacho dials from a UK car - Lge Speedo centre & Sml Tacho on the right (eg my MY98 white dials)
to
STi white dials - Lge Tacho centre & Sml Speedo on right (eg STi5)
If the elec plugs at the back can be swopped around do you think it will work ?

98 and 99 instrument panels aren't a direct swap, although it is doable. You'll have to bodge up the connections, but with a bit of messing about and a continuity meter or some wiring diagrams, you should be able to get everything working.
Don't forget though that you'll be stuck with whatever indication is on the JDM car's odometer - which will count in kilometres.

The MY98 dials look physically similar to the 99's, but underneath they're a different part, and the loom necessary to connect to them is different as a result. Found this out the hard way while trying to do pretty much what you're doing!

Taking this very old thread back to the top...
I have a STi speedo on the shelf, waiting for me to get it wired in my MY98 euro spec (LHD) car, seems to be a lot of wiring to get it working....
I already requested the wiring diagrams for the STi 4 clocks, since that's what I thought it is I have, but now I saw this picture! As you can see the one in the pic has a small tacho, but the one I have on the shelf has a big tacho in the middle. Does anyone know which MY's have the small tacho and which the big one, would help a lot when I'm trying to get the correct wiring diagram....
