I have been advised to change my fuel pump to the STi version since having PPP on my UK WRX03. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know whether the STi pump is better, but an upgraded pump like the Walbro (from Lateral Performance) is a good idea as it will help deliver the increased fuel requirements from the PPP. On my P1 ( which would have a decent pump anyway) just fitting the uprated pump before anything else was done made it run more smoothly.
