Hi peeps, can anyone tell me what decat you can get away with. Is it the one on the downpipe or the centre piece.I was looking at putting a sports cat on. I don't want it to fail, when it comes to the MOT.It's just that i'm new to all this. cheers

The cat in the downpipe is the most effective of the 2, but there are people on here who claim that by removing the downpipe cat & just leaving the centre cat they can get through the emmisions test.

The D/P cat is the most restrictive & releases more fun than the centre, if you follow this route & remove D/P cat, leaving centre cat, make sure when you go for an mot that you thrash the A*se of it B4 turning up, the more heat the more effective the cat will be. alternatively look for a friendly mot centre

I have never used 1 of these but as i said B4 the biggest restrictor is the D/P cat, but it is also the most effective cat of the 2, I would imagine that you could dump the centre & fit a high flow cat D/P & get by, but to get the most fun say goodbye to your kitties

I got rid of all my kitties

No kitties = pure fun

I know a friendly garage who gets it through the emissions test

All true of course, but a big potential downer if you turn up for the MOT after giving your car a work-out, only to find a queue of cars at the station. Even worse if the tester grabs your keys and goes and turns the engine off, allowing your red-hot turbo to merrily boil the oil in its cart.

Finding a friendly testing station has to be the first priority, and if you can't do that, sticking the cat downpipe back in for the duration of the test is probably a more realistic proposition. Only takes 30 min to swap 'em over after all...

I have a decat downpipe and a sports free flow cat in the centre pipe. (MY94 STI). I have no problem getting through the MOT at all.

With ref to Andy above, with Just a front cat I failed the MOT miserably. I have a feeling it's totally F****D as when I put a centre cat from Power engineering on it walked through with 0% co staright away. Their recomendation was ditch the front cat and put one of their front de-cats on for about +20-bhp and +25ft/lbs.
