Oil Can Light on Dash
#1
OK , so I read the long thread a month or so ago regarding the correct procedure for carrying out an oil change.
Well today I decided to do its latest change.
I followed all the procedures as usual , however noticed that when I went to crack over the engine with the crank sensor removed, the oil can light doesnt come on????
Anyway I went through the motions to prime the area and cranked for a couple of 10s turns.
I have a SECS unit and there are no faults reported , Oil pressure is fine etc?
I guess I have a blown dash bulb? Any other ideas?

Hi Rob, try shorting the sender wire to the block as it needs to be conected to earth to work, ie, as it does "in real life" if you loose oil pressure or when ign' is on but engine not running. If it still dose'nt come on, it must be the bulb.
Must say it was looking nice saturday
I forgot to say that if it does work when doing this, the sender unit is probebly fooked!
cheers
Gary.

Where abouts is the sendor? If its where I think it is, I might have snipped the earth when I removed the orginal Lamco guages.
Lev...... Not sure what you were in on Sat? Was it the Silver 4 door STI with the seriously detailed engine bay?

I came along in the mrs' wheels, id just paid for a V5 Type R, pick it up November.
The sender is located under the alternator m8!
If you have chopped its wire somwhere, it wont work, as above, it has to "earth" to work.
When sender "see's" presure, it in effect disconects it from the engine block (earth) an so light goes out.
