I have a VF23, 5Zigen midsection and backbox exhaust on my MY00. My ECU needed a remap cos I also have the APS induction kit and it causes lean running. My car was remapped with a Tek 3 from John Banks.
I believe you can get away with the VF23 and the stock AE802 if you don't have an induction kit, but to run the turbo properly, you need a remap. Without the remap you won't be getting the full potential of the turbo. The good thing however, is you have the good monitoring gauges, so you could give it a go and take it from there.
But it's always best to get a remap when fitting a different turbo.
Cheers,
George.

MRT in Australia seem to think that the VF 23 turbo can be fitted to the MY00 with only minor adjustments to the boost.
They say that the factory AE 802 ECU can cope well with this turbo.
Is fitting this turbo as a replacement a good idea on a UK MY00 with a 5 Zeigen turbo back exhaust.
Also fitted is a AFR, Boost gauge, KnockLink Sensor and a Dawes running at 17 lbs.
Would one need to remap the ecu in order to safely run this turbo?
Any comments would be appreciated.

X SOOOBY,
Do not give your car any stick. Running the APS cold air induction with a Tek 2 is dangerous. The Tek 2's fuel map is leaner than the standard map and with the standard map it already runs lean with the APS kit, so imagine with the Tek 2. The APS kit causes the MAF to under read the air, which results in less fuel supplied by the ECU. You need a Tek 3 ASAP. The MAF sensor map needs recalibrating to fix this problem.
Be very cautious and don't give the car any stick whatsoever.
