I think Water Injection is definitely worthwhile as it increases the safety margin (reduces DET). Costs about £360-£380 for the 1s Aquamist setup and I'm not that worried by 330bhp

hi
in a few weeks i will be purchasing a sti4 type r.
i currently own an mr2 turbo. On this i use water injection to help prevent detonation. This works by squirting a 50/50 mix of water/methanol into the intake pipe. The water cools the intyake charge and the cylinder temps and hte methanol increases the octane rating of the fuel. i found it did a great job on my mr2.
The question i want to know is wether i should bother keeping the kit to fit to my impreza when i get one?
has anybody here got a wi kit fitted?
cheers

thank you for the reply.
does anybody know the material the sti intake mainfold is made from as methanol is very corrosive and my damage the manifold if not made from a suitable material.
cheers

i have a homemade kit developed by one of the mr2 owners who is an electronic engineer, so no its not just a washer jet pump
Its a twin pump system that the flow rate can be mapped using a unichip.
because it was home made this made it extremely cheap compared to the competition.
Similar kits are going to be distrubuted through owen developments.
http://www.owendevelopments.co.uk
i must admit it did cure detonation and let me run higher boost and more ignition advance.
I was running 0.2 bar extra boost and another 2 degrees of timing.
I was veryu pleased with the results and i hope to see the same on my impreza
cheers

not just a washer pump
These have been used in various cars and a few of the higher powered scoobs to assist in retarding of the flame front
in a similat mannor to what octane booster does, with good results.
The kits are readily available from various outlets and vary from a basic water atomizing system to a fully mappable system with level monitoring. Obviously the price reflects the complexity of the system but a basic setup can be had for a few hundred £.
If u want / need more info gimme a shout

Dbt,
No mate, I/C water spray, literally sprays a small amount of water direct onto the intercooler.
Water Injection - Sprays a very fine mist of water (depending where you mount the jets) usually right into the mix, allowing the 'burn' to be cooler, thus reducing det and in most cases upping power

Thanks...!!
from that description water injection looks better for my plan of 330ponies on a UK00. And there was me looking at I/C waterspray kits. To reduce the intake charge and allow the IC to boost higher.

TBMeech.. water injection doesnt directly gain you any power.. it will actually loose you power, it does allow more timing and more boost which does = more power.

The Legend.
I used to have a Rev 3 MR2 Turbo that is now owned by Dino at Owen Devs and therefore you are probably aware of the car. It also runs the "PP" Water Injection Kit.
My Version 5 Type R, was the first that "PP" put his WI kit onto a Scooby and I am very happy with what it provides.
More than happy to show you fitting locations etc.
As with the MR2 , I am running a Unichip mapped by Mark at Owens and have a good 310(249@wheels) & 300lbft from a peak of 1.45 bar and holding 1.1-1.2
