Thanks,

STD exhausts are damm expensive (new).

If you can afford it, go for a cat back mid + tail section in stainless.
You get smoother spool up and a few more horses, plus better noise

I'd go with Dremmel, for 2nd hand stuff though.

Mark
P.S. Hayward & Scott were cheaper than a replacement std system.

Not like this

4.5" tailpipe, with extended silencing to stop booming

The Ninja BB looks good to, and apparently quiet.
Well worth considering, if they do it for a legacy.

Hi Mark,

Car looks good, what size is your rear no. plate?
I've just bought a non age related plate for my GTB & would like a plate that fits into the 2 little plastic holders, but not quite sure what size to get.
I'll have to get a new exhaust soon, really want a slightly noisier one, better than the standard one - which still has nothing wrong with it!!
By the way, you never see many GTB's about, but around 10 miles from me is an identical white GTB to mine.We met up at the meet at NBO, nice lad & also got an air con pump from Gradea after I suggested them to him.

Dremel.(Jon)

Top?

Jon,

Rear plate is oversize.
Basically UK width, with Jap height (me thinks), I'll measure it up and then post.

I know there's loads of exhausts that are available for legacy's.
Well impressed with mine
I went H&S coz they were close.
I'm still running the cat (welded back in), but the centre box has gone.
The main problem that causes booming, is the tailpipe, it's about 12" long from the back box.
This is where most of the boom comes from.
3.5" is as large as you can go without extra internal silencing.

Hence my 4.5" has been silenced through the pipe, to the last 3-4".
It sounds deeper than an Impreza, sits in the background burbling away.
Nice 'n' stealthy

There's better pics on the 'legacyb4' site, under H&S.

There's only 89 TT Legacy's in the country, I have that from a very good source

One GT turned up at or local meet, shame I wasn't there.

HTH

Jon,

had a measure up, my plate is 21" x 6", with slightly oversize lettering.
UK plates are about 20" x 4.5"

You'll need the 6" depth to reach the plastic clips.

Have you got a recess in the front bumper, then you can do this

Jap size plate

Cool

Hi mate we replaced our exhaust sysytem to a stainless the company is called longlife www.exhausts.uk.com this is made to your car takes about three hours or so I was really impressed and our cars preformance has increased greatly and this is on a standed 2.0 legacy 1998.

I plan to change my exhaust I have a legacy gt twin turbo 1994 the cost is about £370 approx depending what type of tail pipe you have and prices start from £299 just be a bit pushy when they qoute you for a better price hope this helps Paul.

Just had a H&S system fitted to my 94 GT estate, standard system was falling off (& sounding very loud & horrible!!!) so had system built & fitted in a hurry at H&S. Ian promised me an extra 20bhp from new system but feels more like extra 100bhp. Obviously was not boosting correctly as used to get dreaded E66, but can now pull cleanly to 7000 revs at will. Magic!!

System fitted was quiet?? system with cat & 2 expansion boxes to keep as standard as possible, as there are too many stories of twin turbos never running properly.

Total cost of mine was £530, which was enough but a lot less than I feared, I have the full system, the service was excellent & built & fitted at short notice, has a lifetime quarantee & goes like **** off ashovel!!

Good luck... Paul

pch,

Did you go for the secondary down pipe as well?

What diameter t/pipe, coz I've not seen anyone go for a dustbin like mine, from H&S

Hope you can make the next Kent meet, then I can have a listen, as you've got a centre box, be interested to hear the comparison.

Mark;

Tailpipe just 3.5" with rolled end as I told Ian I didnt want a drainpipe stuck up the rear & didnt wish to attract too much attention from either the plod or the local boy racers ( I must be getting too old for all this). The down pipe was not replaced as still OK & wish to investigate further what is or is not replaceable. Also if the car now behaves itself for a while, I need to save more pennies before looking at improving the brakes & suspenders.

Thumbs up

You can always go with a Q car back tip, and get the result in performance terms, without the bling bling rear tip or boom

There is at least one B4 I've seen running an FMIC, lotsa neddies, with no badges, an NA bonnet and whimpy little tail pipe - oh, and the piece de resistance are the 16" Impreza wheels

And it ain't mine

I'll stick with me dustbin.
Fills the bumper up

Nobody pays any attention to TTs in the UK anyway

LOL@Mark

Wish they'd ignore my lowered, gold wheeled (well, mostly black w/brake dust ), largish exhausted car I had a 4 door GT-R unmarked job latch on to me recently, luckily I'd realised he was there and varied my speed a bit so he had trouble clocking me Thankfully he lost interest in my bus, as a black BMW was going rather quick and nabbed him instead

Mark;

Only 89 Legacy TTs in the country?? I would be interested to know where that number comes from, if it includes all private imports, would have to come from DVLA I suppose, but in that case make it 90 as the DVLA still have mine listed as a Legacy GL, even after telling them.

If there really is such a small number, has anyone tried to get a register going??

Via the police, I had a little visit

So I would have thought from the DVLA.

Bet there's not that many on here.
I'll post something in general.

I thought mine was pretty unique in the area - until I met Jon (Dremel) driving the other way in his identical white GTB, only 10 miles from my house...

To be fair - he had his first.
