Cool

0.8 to 14.5 psi certainly feel it more
I should think so too, you are running 18 times more boost than before I recon you'd have well over 1000bhp with that

Cheers Dave

The car was running 8psi before (someone had removed the brass restrictor from the standard boost control pipework)

Set it for a conservative 14.5psi (1 bar).

Set up using detcans, afr, and boost reading from the map sensor, all in check

Glad you are pleased Dave

14.5 psi is about 1.0 bar. is that all you can manage to get out of it. with a little tweaking i managed 1.1 bar held in gears 1 -4, fuel cut jumps in if i floor it in 5th so i gotta blip the throttle in 5th. if i want to go higher fuel cut defender is needed. what did you manage out of yours SB?

Catalunya - i hope you have the standard boost gauge, knocklink and afr meter fitted m8 in case your engine melts

cheers

I set it up conservatively for the time being at 14.5psi, boost cut was happening at 16psi.

Given the recent hot tempretures i considered this safe, after listening with det cans etc.

On a cool winters day, the last thing you want is boost cut whilst you are overtaking.

I have offered to tweak this a little bit more come cooler weather, although higher boost will be achieved during the cooler months , and i have advised a permanent boost gauge Knocklink and AFR.

I have a fair few mods on my UK97, and the various monitoring equipment and essential saftey modifications as well, i run around 18.5psi, tailing to 14psi at 6,000 rpm (about a realistic safe pressure for the TD04 - roll on the front entry TD05/06 hybrid)

Goes ok doesn't it Dave? lol

Iain,
Sounds like you did a good job on Dave's car, HOW MUCH did you charge for that task as I could be interested, depending on your location.

Ive got a TurboXS device on AND a small number plate at the front - I am now too scared to take it on the rollers without removing the plate first as it may go mental, do you think the small plate will make it go faster and better or should I go for a re-map or just put the normal number plate back on.

Arron YHM!

Ian,

I can only see the plate making a difference if you have a front mount intercooler, and even then it's gonna be a case of splitting hairs.

I hope you have the relevant gauges etc!!

Pete,

What model year etc?

Big S,

Are you using octane booster, and if you are not,are you seeing many lights on the K Link. I am having to be careful in third and I am running the same boost as you now.

Les,

I am running 100ml of NF per tank and am get no det whatsoever. i get the normal engine and transmission noise indicated on the K/link when i red line in 1st and change to 2nd then into 3rd, but that is a very fast light up and then nothing again. my only problem is flooring it in 5th. as you know the 1.1 bar is damn close to turbo cut out and my boost guage just peaks above 1.1 bar. i have only done it twice so now i just blip the throttle in 5th. having said that i am thinking strongly now about a Pace FMIC with a front entry TD05, induction pipe and proper boost controller (blitz maybe) need to get those intake temps down so i can push the boost a wee bit more

cheers

peteD - 0.8 bar held is about right for a 95 wrx. with a dawes and the proper precautions you can push 1.1 bar held. with a decatted wide neck downpipe this makes a helluva difference for very little money. i stuck an uprated adjustable fuel reg on as well just to be mega safe. best £500-600 i ever spent on the motor. belive me it is like chalk and cheese compared to a standard 95 wrx now. i reckon (though i havent had it verified properly) i am knocking on the door of 290 - 300 horses with this setup.

cheers

oops... learn to read. my95 uk spec turbo 215 bhp IIRC. still, dawes should make a big difference to you so provided you invest in knocklink, afr and boost guage, i would deffo go fro it.

cheers

Totally back what Neil says

You should really get the saftey stuff (boost gauge, AFR, Knocklink etc) before you carry out any modifications, as they may show up problems with a standard car. When setting the car up it is also advisable to use det cans as a back-up

Another definate consideration is the uprated fuel pump as well, as the standard pum can struggle to supply fuel for anything above standard boost. (one of the reasons i set Daves car up conservatively)

Thanks for the info Big S. I got the fuel cut in top just like you and reduced the boost with the Dawes just marginally and don't get the fuel cut now.

Think I will get some NF then to be on the safe side in the summer temperatures.

You'll be after 350 horses next

its a safe bet les especially with the really hot spells you seem to be havin across the shuck. twelve quid a bottle adds £4 to the price of a tank of fuel (ouch). well you didnt buy the car for it's fuel economy did ya? instructions say only to put 50ml per tank but i have been told thats ok if using optimax. unfortunately we don't get optimax in northern ireland, best we can do is 97 ron sul. still i havent had a peep of det since increasing the boost.

hmmmm....350 horses, think i might make it, but i'm gonna need to spend a shed load (PACE FMIC is about 1100 quid). Law of diminishing returns i suppose but to have a genuine (not pub talk) 350 gee gees must be awesome. getting into exotica territory there m8. ahhh well it's only money.

Anyone have a minter STI5 type R i could have, just to base me monster on.

old scooby modders don't die they just buy skylines

cheers
