Should this be happening???

I have only just noticed after 18mths of ownership of my MY99 STI Type-R, that when I press the "WATER SPRAY - AUTO" button the whole dash lights up, just like when you put the lights on!!!!!
Is this right?
If so, why?
Cheers,
Craig.

No, it's not. Serious wiring error there by the look of things!
Silly question, but have you looked to see whether the exterior lights actually go on when this happens?

greasemonkey,
Yeah, I checked the lights. The rear lights don't come on but the front side lights do!!!!WTF. They are at full brightness, as is the dash and heater controls, so its not like a short or anything like that. Very bizarre.
Any ideas,
Craig.

Sorry bloke, I'm a bit flummoxed by this one. Has it always done this, or is the first time in 18 months of ownership you've turned the auto spray on?

I've had a little dabble in the past, but during daylight it's difficult to tell the dash is illuminated. I only realised this time round when I left the switch on and went to take my car out of the garage and saw the side-lights reflection of the wall.
Anybody else got any ideas?
Craig.

Sorry mate but this has never happened on my Type-R. My auto water spray stays on most of the time.
Do the lights just come on for a short period of time or are they constant?

I think I can answer this one.....
The electrical plug/connector for the water spray auto is connected to a spare/(unused?) connector for the lights.... i think at least thats what they told me..

Krazy,
That sounds very promising. Do you mean that the SPRAY BUTTON is plugged into the wrong loom? Can you expand slightly?
Sounds like you are right, whatever it is.
Cheers,
Craig.

Sorry for the vagueness....
If its just 1 connector thats been plugged in wrong - manual spray button works ok but the auto one turns on dash/side lights yeah?
Took em a minute 2 fix mine, there's a spare light connector close/next to the ic/auto connector, and they been plugged in wrong way round..(identical sockets)
I think the tech blokey said it was a connector under the bonnet near the lights but it was a while ago and am not to sure could b the button side, I'll have a look 2morro on mine see if I can find it...
