A re-map would require a replacement ECU!!!

Why not try a Dawes device or simalar (See Scooby shop - http://shop.scoobynet.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductID=467) to raise the boost a little

TBH the Dawes device scares me. Sounds too easy to whack the boost up and blow yourself up! Cheap mod, although I would want all the gizmos i.e. knocklink - I think? Perhaps its my lack of understanding about the DD that puts me off.

Can you increase boost with standard internals?

Cheers

I run 1.25 on mine with a Link ECU.

Dawes are ok to use but make sure you have a boost gauge to see what you are setting it to, don't go overboard and crank it up to silly levels.

There is quite a bit you can do.

I have a UK97 (same ecu etc as the 98). Get the saftey style mods done first, then once that side is sorted you can begin talking Dawes devices etc, this is the route i took.

If you want big power then there is only so far that you can push the standard ECU, then its the realms of the Link ECU etc. I'm trying to get the best out of the original ECU safely at the moment.

I'm based in Gloucestershire, where in Warwickshire are you?

Cheers

Hi Molds

I'm in the same boat as you....i have a UK MY97 with Blitz induction kit and HKS de-cat exhaust system. After speaking to Jap-Innovations there is a lot of BHP you can get whilst still using the same ECU, if you have a look on their web site they have a section on their cars (http://www.jap-innovations.co.uk/), theres a MY97 there with over 300BHP!

I'm getting all the safety devices fitted first i.e knock, Lambda Link, boost gauge and then will probably get an Electronic Boost Controller(EBC), the Blitz one seems fairly good for the money, if i increase the boost i will have to make sure to upgrade the turbo hoses with some Samco items. this should keep me happy for a while!

I'm getting some stuff fitted on monday so will let you know how it goes.

Ray

i think power engineering do a bolt on addition for the pre-99 ECU's... just a more sophisticated way of upping the boost than a dawes device...

Cirencester and L/Spa are about 80 miles apart.

So, sounds like some kind of boost controller and/or ECU fiddling.

Ah well, i was gonna offer to give you a help in hand, and some pointers etc.

Get the gauges/knocklink/afr/fuel pump etc first, so you know what the standard base car is doing.

Just had my '98 UK car fitted with a LINK ecu, and mapped by Bob Rawle of BRD, at Swindon, just down the road for you.
I have a piece of advice concerning this mod:
