Anywhere in the country will do.
I have to say I am gutted, I'm starting to wonder if I went for the right car.

I've just found a Jap import specialist based in Bournemouth called Triton Motorsport.
Has anyone heard of them? Are they any good?
Thanks for the help.

I've only ever put Optimax in it, I haven't put any octane booster in it though. I was told I wouldn't need it, that Optimax would sufice.

Mad Gypsy, unless it has been remapped to run on SUL or Optimax, it is advisable to use octane booster too.
Don't forget these cars are spoiled on 102 RON back home in Japan.
P.S.
Did you read my other thread?

Thats a bit of a pi55er!!!
Triton have been used by a few of the locals, not heard any bad remarks, but I've not known anyone have an engine done by them, good luck with it whatever it is. I fear you're gonna need it!
What makes you think it's blown, and what were you doing to make it go???
Ron.

Darren - if its sold through an "garage" then it has to have a minimum of 3 months warranty. Sale of goods Act I believe.
Mad Gypsy - check with your warranty company as they often have their own places they contract work out to.

I think it's blown because of the loud knocking.
I had a car years ago and the big ends went, the scoob is making the same noise. Plus it is driving like a milk float. Turbo fecked?
The dealer I bought it from put a 6 month warranty on it from Motor Cover (select five)
It clearly states that the car is an import on the paperwork.

Well for a engine rebuild and dependin whats gone u are lookin in the region of 5-6k. And the warranty will only cover bour 2. There is a catch with warranties. I know cause it happened to me.

This is probably a load of b***cks but its my opinion Believe it at your own risk!
Your warranty legally lies with the garage that sold you the car. They may cover this via a third party warranty, but if the warranty doesn't cover it fully you can get the rest from the garage. May take some effort on your part!
Make sure you follow any instructions provided to you by the garage/warranty company and keep everyone fully informed, makes sure your back is covered.
If it is the standard STi problem (no 3 big end) should be possible to fix for less than 5-6k as well! Should be around 2-3k I have heard. However for 5-6k you could get a rather nice bottom end put together that will take a lot more than 280bhp, just need to get the engine builder to state it is standard on the invoice

Your warranty would only cover you if the engine is standard, i.e. Dump valve,Induction kit, exaust etc.
They can be really fussy on mods.
If there any engine mods, i recon you should take them off, or get somebody to take them off for you.
Hope this helps.
If worse comes to worse you can pick up a good second hand engine for around 750-850 quid.
good luck

Just take it back to the garage and get your money back. If you have only had the car 4 days you should be able to get them to take the car back on the grounds that it was probably shagged when you bought it.

Out of interest what have the garage who sold you the car said about it, surely they should put it right or refund the money. I dont know the legalities but trading standards or the Citizens advice bureau should be able to help on that one
Before you agree to any work being done contact the warranty company & get there agreement or you may find you get the whole bill. They are renowned for not paying

I would like to keep the car, so long as the warranty company don't try and do a runner, which is something they try to do in most cases where they have to spend anything over £50.
If I don't have any joy with either warranty company or garage, I'll go see a lawyer. Someones going pay, it's as simple as that.

wah hey another Bournemouth person, sorry to hear about your engine, did you buy it locally?
If you get problems with the warranty I'd tell the garage you don't want the car, did you buy it on HPI as I think you get a 7 day cooling off period.
Good luck with the repair mate.
Cheers

I bought the car from Kent. I haven't spoken to either garage or warranty company yet. I'm waiting for a call back from Roger Clarks Motorsport.
I'll be calling both later this morning.

I have now spoken to both garage and waranty company.
I'm just waiting to hear from Roger Clarks about transporting my scooby up to them to strip and diagnose.
Can't get into the nitty gritty as this will no doubt turn into a leagal issue.
Many thanks to members of the board for their help and for putting me on to Roger Clarks, they really do know their onions.

I was told the car had only been run on super.
The car was imported from new, so if it had been run on standard I'd have thought it would have shown it's self before now.

Ask them how they did the service - sounds odd but they may have not done it the "scoob-way":
You need to fill the filter twice, not half, as the first fill soaks into the material and the second fill acts like a small sump and is the reservoir for the filter system. It is VERY INPORTANT to crank the engine with the ignition disconnected and preferably the plugs out, to take the load off the crank in a 'dry' situation. Starting the engine immediately from a change is a very bad idea especially on a Subaru that seems much more susceptible to crank problems than most engines. When you drain the oil the pick up pipe is also drained and fills with air which need to be replaced with oil before the pump can create any volume let alone any pressure. Oil also has to circulate everywhere once cranked to meet a resistance so that pressure can build up.
