Error code 43. It's apparently a throttle switch.
There is an idle switch built in to the throttle position sensors on early phase 1 engines, so I guess this is what it's refering to.

The "43" error code is not one I've seen associated with an Impreza engine before - so I am just assuming it's the throttle switch. It shouldn't cause boost loss. It is in the black box on one side of the throttle body.
My best guess for the boost problem is that you've misread the code - 44 (4 long flashes and 4 short flashes) and 45 could easily cause boost loss. You can find out about these by doing a search for "cleaning boost solenoid" It's a straight forward job using spray brake cleaner.

I thought the engines were more or less the same on the older Impreza and Legacy. I guess there are some subtle differences.
Back to the original suggestion of the throttle idle switch then!
I don't think this will be related to boost, as it only tells the ECU when the car is idling. There's probably a couple of problems rather than a simple cause and effect.

It's in the little black box on the side of the throttle body. Middle top of the engine, just in front of the chargecooler. (Oposite side to the throttle linkage assembly) Sorry, I don't have a pinout handy, but I will look one out if no one else has one.

I don't really know. I suspect that there are some spares in people's cupboards that could be acquired for a reasonably small sum. However, if you're lucky, it'll only be about half an hour messing around with the multimeter. (As the TPS assembly is simply misaligned...)

I know it's not exactly the same engine, but assuming it's a pre97 car this might give a few clues...
http://www.jimclarkeracing.co.uk/~sc...iagnostics.pdf may help.
If you haven't already done so, follow the instructions on pages 45 to 47 and 54 to 55 of the PDF file. This should guarantee that there is nothing wrong with the idle switch and throttle position sensor.
I note from reading the above PDF and Chris Palmer's diagnostic page that the idle switch is error 42 and the TPS is error 31. The throttle switch is error 43 - It is obviously different to the idle switch although the idle switch has been referred to as the "throttle switch" to me before now... (Not helpful really )
Sorry for confusing the issue
Legacy owners? Where's that damned throttle switch? - hopefully in the same unit as the TPS and idle switch.
