I meant just by looking at it from the engine bay.
Still in the car.

Any numbers to look out for?

my answer is from looking at the engine in the engine bay.

The closed deck block has some hatching marks cast into the block in the area near the crank sensor, the non closed deck block is smooth in that area.

Um...and I think ALL UK legacy turbos have a closed deck block?
They also have poorer heads than the impreza.

Certainly all earlier Legacy's...Not so sure about the later ones, around 95ish.
