O my MY95 WRX Import would the general oil change be the same on say a corsa - sump plug, drain oil, new oil and change filter?

how much does a new oil filter cost and how much oil are you supposed to put in?

cheers

Pretty much, but be warned the sump plug is very big and the oil comes out like the bloody niagara (sp?) falls so make sure you have a big catch tank. I used one of the Halfords black plastic things and the oil just sprayed everywhere over the top.I have now vowed to never do it myself again as places like scoobysport only charge about 85 quid to do an interim service using v.good oil like Silkolene pro S (cost of oil is about £45 pounds anyway plus the filter). If you are going to do it yourself though I think the filter is about 12 quid and the engine with a filter change will take about 4.5 Litres I believe. Although in my experience you need at least 5 as I spilt quite a bit filling the filter from the full oil can and filling the car (I didn't have a Funnel which would have made it so much easier).
Cheers.
Craig.

It's also a good idea to disconnect the crank sensor and turn the engine on the starter until the oil pressure light on the dash goes out. That makes sure the oil's circulating round all the important bits before you fire her up!

IMO you are wasting your time doing an oil change and not doing the filter as it is the filter that attracts the dirt.........
normal recomend would be to use a high quality oil and do a filter/oil change every 5K...........

p.s wouldn't use anything that's free unless its the correct spec for the job.........
