will my00 quickshift fit my97?

As title I'm after buying a non standard quickshift from somebody on here but I'm sure that the shifters are different on an my97 - my00 am I right?
Didn't 99-00 come with a better shifter as standard therefore maybe different?
Please some knowlegable bod help me out.

Nope, they are differant. Only way I can describe them is the my00 shifter has a hole through it and the 97 has a bracket (u shape) on it.
