I have had this problem a couple of times,When I try to start my Jap import my93 WRX, it chugs coughs & splutters, then cuts out. Trying to start it after this it is just dead, it just turns over on the starter. (I don't touch the accelerator when cranking it over). The only way it starts is by flooring the accelerator while turning it over. I haven't had time to check out the problem, although last time it did it I checked the fault codes and it wasn't showing any. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same fault, before I start mucking about. suspect it is somthing to do with the idle control. Any ideas?????

Cool

Chester,

Check u r coolant temp sensor.
I had similar a year or 2 ago & after checking the sensors it turned out the coolant temp sensor had gone fubar So there wasnt enough fuel being injected to start it Hence why it neede some throttle 2 start.
