Question

MY95 wrx ra is currently suffering from a misfire on idle & low boost.Ive got a general idea & list of what the possible causes could be but im at at point where I need to hand over my car to someone with more experience in diagnostics. What and how much can the select monitor check for? i.e timing, sensors, coil packs.

Select monitor to my knowledge can check the sensors with a knowledgeable operator.. if no error codes etc.. and could identify a Lamda or MAF sensor problem.

Timing is adjusted by the ECU and so the select monitor can display the amount of correction the ECU is using..

Coil packs would be my finger pointer position...

Worth checking all earthing and perhaps adding extra.. also worth checking the spark plug gaps.. and perhaps new plugs.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply JGM.
Ive done the earth mod but it still misfire, checked sparkplugs re-adjusted, cleaned boost pipes, soleniod, crank sensor, cam sensor, but still misfires. Im just hope its something silly like coils etc. Trying to make my mind up who to give the car to for diagnostics.

I had similar problem.. lumpy on cold start.. and an occasional miss on light throttle or on WOT in first..

Decided it was the coil packs and bought one.. thought I'd replace the one nearest the turbo first and swap it around until I found the one with the fault.

Fitted it and the fault was still there but the car was pulling so much better.. that I went out and replaced the other three too.. car then flew and no miss fires.. extra power highlighted my dying clutch though.. but now changed and it is really flying.

They are £50 something each and easy to fit yourself..

Did you replace them with the original type fitted into the cyl heads or did you get the ozzy bosch type?
By the way if i remember rightly your clutch is borg & beck £85 i think? How does that clutch perform, what power are you running at?i just recenlty fitted the 230mm sti original, works fine but expensive.

I fitted originals.. I tried to get the ones from Ozz but got messed about..

Didn't make mine feel like an STi again.. but then that will be because it wasn't in the first place LOL..

Borg and Beck has performed well so far but only running upto about 260 on a good day
