It was a faulty MAF sensor !!!!
#1
For those who are interested , over the past month when accelerating hard to hard'ish in 4th & 5th gear, my scoob (99uk Turbo), has been slightly overboosting & just felt generally lumpy.
Accelerating in the 1st 3 gears however was fine.
No warning light on dash ever lit up & sometimes the ammount of overboost seemed to diminish so I was reluctant to change the MAF in case it wasn't that. But today I changed it , had the ECU reset & what a difference , the car pulls hard & smooth again in all gears & feels as sprightly as it used to do. This may seem to some as being completely obvious but I thought I'd just state for future reference, to anybody who may develop this problem.
Cheers.
