How much benefit will I see on my MY98 Impreza Turbo by replacing airbox with an induction kit, and which one is best for performance gains?

And while i'm at it, what other starting mods would be good (in a budget, buying it has wiped me out almost :O ) dump valve? any point?

My car didn't feel any more powerful at all after fitting my K&N 57i. It will probably be only worth 2 or 3 bhp, however throttle response did feel significantly better
Dump valves are very much down to personal opinion. Mine is a VTA and i like the whoosh
My car does feel better going through the gears when gunning it, but i'm sure someone will come along and say bullsh1t
Just for the record, i did put the OE dumper back on a while ago for a few days, and it confirmed my original opinion I'm sticking with the whoosh.

Wink

Forget the airfilter, forget the dv, both do very little so a waste of money.
Your best bet is a stainless exhaust (from the downpipe back to start with) and a nice back box
These will give you significant gains rather than pathetic ones (ie the dv does nothing, the exhaust gives you a nicer sound and free flowing gasses and a nice increase in performance ).
Best place to start

My mate is getting me an Sti backbox, off the new Sti, for £80 - so that's a start.

When I get some cash I want a decent full decatted system and a decent downpipe - any reccommendations?

For my MY00 the biggest improvement came from the decat downpipe. I found that once my exhaust was completely replaced (Scoobysport) adding the K&N 57i definitely made it pull better up the top of the rev range.

I think it's all down to finding the bottleneck. As you upgrade bits, something else becomes a bottleneck.

Apparently it'll fit straight on - mate, who's a mechanic, has a contact at Prodrive who gets the old one's when people upgrade. he put one on his Legacy Bi-turbo, but had to extend it a bit, but reckons it'll fit straight onto mine. If not, he'll bodge it on somehow :O
