I have read the old threads on ECU reset by connecting/disconnecting wires located under steering column, but won't it reset by just disconnecting battery for an hour?

'Proper' reset is better IMHO.

Detailed instructions also on MRT website.

Why should you need to do a reset any way ?

Very briefly..

1: On early cars they retard the ignition timing when knock detected and take a long time to advance it.
Newer cars are better and advance it pretty much as quickly as they retard it. So if you happen to get a bad batch of fuel and the timing is retarded due to this the early cars will take tank after tank full of good fuel to advance again.
Often feel a slight power increase after a reset as it returns the timing to base values.

2: on the newer cars the MAF sensor is more fragile and the ECU seems to compensate for a failing MAF sensor but eventually it cannot compensate enough and you run the car lean (bad).
If you reset the ecu and all of a sudden it runs rough then likely you had a MAF problem. Replace MAF and all is good again (original power back)

All this is just stuff I have picked up off here and experiances with the older car.

I have wired the plugs on mine to switches and reset the ecu periodically and after and mods..

Gedi,

Yes.. only thing to remember is to remove the immobiliser before you turn the ignition on.

I like that last idea, could be a job for the weekend

Edited to say, are the instructions found here http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co....iag%20Page.htm the same for the later scoobs too?
I have an STI5 TypeR I want to reset, but I don't wanna ***** anything up.
