Help me please!!!!!

I have just fitted a scoobysport downpipe, but the lambda sensor doesn't wat to screw cleanly into the new downpipe.

I have noticed that the thread looks slightly worn on the edge of the sensor, but i do not know if this was like this when i removed the sensor from the original downpipe.

I know from a previous owner that a full scoobysport exhaust was fitted once before, so i guess the lambda could have been monkeyed then.

Does the sensor taper?
Should i just wedge it in?

I have read they can cost £200 if i knacker it.

Help

UKMY'99...

Please ........sob.

Thanks kipper, but the car will run rich all of the time with no Lambda sensor fitted - god knows what other probs it would cause without one.

You need the sensor to work). Due to heat and pressure, wedging it in will not work either. The good news is that Motor factors sell universal 3-wire / 4 wire sensors for approx £55 (better than main dealers £lots).

All sensor thread sizes are the same so yep.
Does in screw back into the old pipe ok?
To ease fitting try alittle oil on the thread, Grab a bit from your dip stick. dont use aerosole oils (somthing in them reacts with the ceramic on the sensors).

Turns out that the thread on the old lambda is knackered, but just about goes into the standard exhaust with only finger pressure.
I guess this should not be fitted into the new downpipe in case i damage the thread on it.

Does anyone know the thread type and size for the lambda sensor itself, i may have to re-cut it.

Or does anyone have one for sale???

James.

It is the same size and thread as the old 18mm spark plug. You could get one of those, file longitudinal slots in the thread and use that to clean up the thread in the pipe.
