did a 2 hour journey just covering 60 miles (london traffic to blame) then went to start the engine, nothing, the immoboliser wouldn't do it's bit, changed the batterys on the keyfob still no joy, had to use the keypad to allow me to start the engine. Does anyone have any ideas what happened. I did have the radio on for the whole journey, hope it wasn't the car battery weak.

That problem sounds like crank angle sensor, the car will only start intermittantly and gets worse over time to the point it will stop while you are driving and won't start again.
