Can you just remind me how to reset my ECU
#1
If i'm correct in saying - all i have to do is disconnect, for example, the negative terminal from the battery.
If so how long do i need to leave it disconnected?
I'm reseting it because i want to test some NF Octane booster this afternoon on the original 93wrx jap ECU. I'm going to fill up, with optimax and OB, reset the ECU, drive for a while than give it some welly and watch my Knocklink.
Thanks
Mark

Look under the dash, there are 2 green connectors, and 2 black connectors, connect them together (i.e. green to green and black to black), loads of stuff will whir and click, start the engine, and go for a 5 min drive, the check engine light will flash on and off (should do so every second in a regular pattern, if not, you have something wrong and will need to check for the fault code from the pattern of the check engine light). Disconnect the wires, and robert is your mothers brother.

As above, connect the green and black connectors. Turn ignition on without starting the engine, fully depress the accelerator pedal then bring it "half way up" for a couple of seconds before releasing it. Lots a strange noises under the bonnet and start engine. Take a steady drive without flooring it until CEL starts to flash at a steady pace. ie no faults detected, jobs a good 'un

"How to re-set your ECU unit.
ECU clear memory procedure is as follows for auto and manual transmissions:
With engine at operating temperature, turn engine off. Place gear shift lever into park (auto transmission cars only)
Locate the two ECU check connectors, for most cars they are located under the steering column and consist of a black plastic male and female connector, and a green male female connector. The exact location of the connectors varies with the different year models, but generally they are located under the steering column on the drivers side.
NOTE: sometimes they are still taped over with some small amount of plastic tape, so look hard, they will be there!
With the ignition OFF connect black to black and green to green.
Turn on ignition, do not start the engine, (and for auto transmission, cycle the gearshift lever from park to neutral and back to park ), depress the accelerator pedal to full throttle and hold for a few seconds, and then release.
Start engine and then drive for at least one minute, keeping road speed above 11 Km/h.
ECU is now re-set.
At this point the check engine light should start to flash the all clear signal (steady 1/2 second interval flashes). If the check engine light does not flash, or indicates some other sequence, there is a fault present in the system, and should be professionally checked for necessary repairs.
Once, stop the car and turn off the engine.
Disconnect the plugs.
