BOCU
#1
Newbie Style Dense question, but could somebody please explain BOCU devices to me? I am at a loos to even understand the concept: as far as I can work out, it's a flap that blows open to...do what?
Sorry to seem thick here, but I don't even know what BOCU stands for, so can't put together a decent search?

The Pop off valve vents excess charge air before the throttle plate in order to boost limit pressure. This is rather like the pressure control valve in a steam pressure cooker, it lets the intake pressure build up to a preset level and then vents any excess charge to maintain this maximum pressure limit.
Such a valve can be used as a more direct boost control method than the more conventional use of exhaust bypass "wastegate" valves.
