A bit long - Sorry!

I know that this problem has probably been posted 000's of times but I've looked on search and cant find what I'm looking for.

I've got a Sti Type-R and the problem is with boost. Sometimes it just doesnt seem to pull as violently as at other times. This problem always seems to resolve itself when I get it some hammer for a bit, 2-5 mins, then it pulls like a plane in all gears again. Sometimes it pulls correctly right from the get go, but other times can be a real pain in the ar$e!

This problem is really starting to bug me now. I know bits and bats about cars etc but was hoping one or a few of you more knowledgable guys could possibly help coz i dont know where to start.

The only mod is a decatted Magnex exhaust system, and unfortunately I do not have a boost gauge so I cant tell what its boosting at inthe different circumstances!!! Sorry!!

I'd say get a boost gauge mate, and so will everyone else probably.

It's a good place to start as you can tell if your power loss is down to a boost drop (some cars will slip into a 'limp mode').

If it isn't a boost drop at least it will help with your process of illimination perhaps might point you toward timing retarding because of det (especially being it's an STi with a decat and no re-map)

Is your 'Check Engine Light' (in by your speedo) comming on.....If so, I had this problem and it turned out to be a faulty knock sensor !

Cheers guys.

The Check Engine Light never comes on when I'm diving.

I'm pretty sure the car will have been re-mapped at some point because it was brouhgt into the country as a brand new car for someone and I have £000's worth of receipts from reputable garages from over the years. No expense seems to have been spared with the upkeep of the car.

It could be detonation, but why would this happen at first and then once you start giving it some never happen again? Does this happen regularly. I'm not trying to be clever, just really wanting to get to the bottom of it.

I will look into getting a boost gauge. Would the A Pillar be the best place to put one?
