Exclamation

Here's a sound file of piston slap when the engine is cold, provided by Alan Leslie.

Would it be possible if this thread could become a sticky to make it easier for people to be able to diagnose if they have piston slap? It would save the question being repeated every so often.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Yep, I can safely say that after 39 years in the motor trade with engines that is definitely piston slap. Not terrible just annoying really and providing it isn't using heaps of oil no real need to do anything until you want to or you want to sell the car.

Of course if it's under warranty then it's life threatening and needs to be fixed NOW.

Good luck David API Engines

Yes, it's that grrruuuuunng sound you hear in the file as the engine is revved that is not there on a car witout piston slap.

Hmmmm mine sounds just like that.... worse when cold but even when hot it doesn't go away completely. And mine's a 93 WRX, not a UK97/98 . It's done it really ever since i've had it (over 3 years) .

Not sure, but you have nothing to lose if you ask the Subaru dealer.

Luke,

I suppose you could host it. Don't know if Alan Leslie would mind. Perhaps putting a note that it is his sound file might be OK.

Cheers,

Wrexy.
