#1
Just had my00 serviced by main agent 45000 mile service new cam belt, oil, filter, top up antifreeze, cost £425.03, is this right sounds a bit exspensive, they charged me £135.00 just to supply the cam belt, are they that exspensive, have i been charged right or have i been ripped off. I drive a standard turbo 2000.

that's the right price for a main dealer. Expensive cars to run, mate!
If you're doing 45k services I'll assume you're out of warranty (unless you extended it?) in which case you can get servicing for a bit cheaper from places like www.subaru4you.co.uk in Tatcham, just off the M4. Never used them though, so can't vouch for anything...
But any independent dealer (scoobysport, TSL, Powerengineer etc.) all do full servicing and should all be cheaper than a main dealer.

yes still under warranty so i have no choice but i've only done 1500 miles since the last service, but dealers say you should have it serviced every 6 months even though my car has only done 35000 miles, the previous owner doing higher milage than average it has had more than one service in a six month period.

I always have mine done every 6 months, regardless of mileage (unless I hit the mileage barrier fist, which I haven't yet)
Good idea to do an oil and filter change every 3 with Turbo'd cars, too (especially w. high boost).

Cam belt on MY00 does not have to be changed until 60,000. Look in ya schedule and it's there in black and white.
Dealers will not agree (Because they want the revenue and will never have heard of it before ) but IM certainly do. Nothing wrong with changing it now, don't get me wrong, and if it's been on track days or hammered as a matter of course then maybe 45k is a good time to change, but if a bit short on cash, get it done at 52.5k or 60k service.
Don't forget the service book so that when the dealer starts to argue, open the schedule, watch them say "ahh but sir, you have a turbo which is the twin cam engine" see how they eagerly flick through a few pages, see how the finger traces along the cam belt line and then watch as the matrix shows that the "r" for replacing the cambelt is in the 60,000 colunm.
Bear with them for a few minutes while they go and talk to some one and then when they return with a sheepish "We've never come across that before sir" or a "Well we still suggest...." Stick to your guns. You are quite entitled to have an oil change service at 45,000 and retain your warranty.
Incedentally, this does NOT apply to earlier scoobs.

I had my 45K service done by Scoobysport end of last year and was £360 this included cam belt etc.
So your price doesn't sound far off considering its a dealer.

the cam belt used to be 45k service, but Subaru changed the schedules on the later MY00's to 60k (was advised when I got my 37500 done).
Most of the independents still do it at 45k though...

that's low mileage, so it's not worth getting it done every 6 months, as the schedule says 6 months or 7,500 miles. I do about 5k in the 6 months so it's worth it. But I drive it quite hard on occasion so change the oil every 3 to look after the turbo.
As you say, down to the individual really...

Just becasue its still under warranty doesnt mean you HAVE to have it serviced at a dealer - thats only in the first year. For the remainder of the warranty it has to be serviced according to the schedule using subaru parts - thats it.
I had my 45k done at scoobysport for 380 - 70 quid less that lo
cal dealer (adams) !
And now I have one of the last MY52s I'll be going back there at the end of the first year.
