just had had a scoob from 2 weeks (MY98 UK TURBO) filled it up with normal UL and it seemed ok, read a few posts on here so at next will fillup i put optimax in and the car run like a diesel fiesta. Do i have to do anything to the engine/ecu to use this fuel....?
Since put normal UL in and its running ok again, so what do i need to do to run higher octain fuel

Do not run 95 ron in them.
Use SUL or Optimax
No need to do anything just pour it in and off you go
UK cars should be ok on 95 ron but better to be safe than sorry
Cheers

It is a UK car which is mapped to run 95 so don't waste your money. We had a MY00 and ran it for 3 years on 95 and it was perfect. We now have a 03 WRX and are still running that on 95. I however run my STi 8 on Optimax but that's a different story.

Sorry mate but I disagree strongly with you there.
Yes they can run on 95 ron but what's the point in us all chucking cash at these cars to get every last drop of performance out of them and then you chuck crap petrol in them.
Makes no sense to me I'm afraid
Have run mine (one unavoidable tankful) on 95 ron and never again.
Cheers

Don't you have to reset the ECU if you change the fuel that you run in the car so that it can adjust.
I was told that if i had to ever put regular unleaded in my Jap then i would need to re-set the ecu when i then put Optimax back in it.

You can speed the adjustment up by resetting them, though. If I were you, I'd fill up with Optimax, then disconnect the battery overnight. Easiest way to do it!
And as SiPie says, they don't run on 95 & were never intended to. Have a look at an identical-to-the-UK Euro model & it'll say 'fill only with SUL' under the filler cap. The reason it doesn't say that in the UK is that selling a car in the UK that takes SUL only is nearly impossible, so not a good marketing move.

I dont know what it had been running on before i got it but it definatly disagreed with optimax, i will try the ECU reset thing on my next fill up and see if its any better with optimax after a reset.
