Question

Noticed a couple of times, that hard cornering with 1/4 tank causes an engine cut-out, and immediate restart (not a very good thing in a corner)

Is 1/4 the usual level that this occurs or do I need to worry about something else that maybe wrong ??

I get fuel surge in my MY00 at around 1/4 tank.

It unfortunately is the norm.

Fuel Surge If you can be assed to go through my history you'll find a rather interesting thread about it after I spun out at 80mph because of it. To this day nobody believes me but thats their loss because I know that it was the biggest contributing factor in what happened. I've not had it for months as I usually remember not to push it on right-handers with low fuel but I forgot a few weeks ago. I pumped it round a roundabout and then floored it - 2 seconds later I just about headbutted the steering wheel and given I'm 6 foot tall and long legged you'll appreciate how voilent the deceleration was In my car fuel surge like this is just as brutal as hitting the brake hard for 1-2 seconds. I dare anyone to do that at 80mph on a corner and not spin

The cheap solution is to modify your driving and awareness of fuel levels. The more expensive solution is a swirl pot.

You'd think they would have sorted it by now

I've never had this in any other car. I used to chuck the VTS around like a madman when it was running on just fumes!!

A swirl pot is. I believe almost a "can" with many spall holes which the fuel pump sits inside, the "pot" fills with petrol, and because of the small holes, holds petrol in the pot (hence at the fuel pump) when thrashing round corners on nearly empty!

When I had if a few weeks ago the car actually cut out for a few seconds as I distinctly heard it fire back up again That can't be good for it

If the effect is as serious as everyone seems to be saying then it sounds like someone should be taking legal advice and talking to Subaru..

Question

Whats the solution to this then and how much will it cost ???

Is it as simple as just fitting a swirl pot and does this then just hold a supply of fuel for when you corner hard ??

But if you engine did go **** up due to this momentary lack of fuel how on earth could you ever prove that the design flaw was the cause
