Question

Now and again, my car has a bit of trouble starting, usually it turns over a couple of times then fires up, but on a few occassions it has turned over for about 5-10 seconds before firing, is this a common problem or an easy sort? the car has only done 12000 miles.

Question

Ok, how do you start your car up? (silly question but i put my foot on the clutch then start the car up, takes the load off the engine) and i also take it you use super unleaded fuel?

from memory the official line goes like this :-

1. key in ignition turn on.
2. let buzzing/whining stop approx 10 seconds, this also allows ecu to to trot round checking all sensors etc checking for cold start procedure etc.
3. start car.

Yup mine does that sometimes, kinda starts as I turn the key but don't, then won't start for a few turns...as Pete says, leaving it a while after turning the key seems to be the way to do it.

Pete, I'll be mailing you about that damn Octane Boost this week

Cool

Cheers for the replies guys,
I will make a concious (spelling?) effort to allow the pump to prime the injectors , etc before starting in future, I am probably the source of the problem !

Best regards,
Kevin

I dont think u are. My99 40K does the exact same thing aswell. Ive had a couple of sensors changed under warranty. Most recent was the crank sensor, but it still did it once recently when the car got iced over one night n I started it the next morning, so it is rare. And it does always start on the 2nd attempt. I sometimes can smell a whiff of fuel, as if its overfuelling on startup n flooding slightly. Dealer has no clue what it is, and atm its 'just one of those things' I suspect a glitch in the ECU now. As long as it doesnt leave me stranded somewhere im not bothered

Question

do you turn the ignition on and allow the pump to prime(until it stops)before cranking?

also some modern cars should not have the accelerator pressed during start up.I have found some scoobs mind some do not.
