De cat wont kill it.
Highest bhp with standard internals, probably aim about 320/330. You could probably get more though
Keep reading this forum mate, you will pick up a lot of info

What will kill it is running it on 95 ron fuel!
For the mods you have i would say you shouldnt have any problems, but i would for safety's sake get a few things fitted....
1. Defi gauges (let you know what your cars doing
)
2. Remapped ecu (let your car run safely on uk fuel
)
3. Brakes (so you can stop with the extra BHP you will have
)

many thanks for the replies,tony i have gauges and have just upgraded my brakes,but was just wondering after all i'm on my 4th rebuild due to peoples incompetence and a year later!(thanks cent*** su*b*r*!!!!!!!!)i've been in touch with mark from lateral who is been by far my greatest help what with my turbo and everything else but the garage who are doing the rebuild have gone with api engines.But to all out there i would recommend mark to anyone,thanks mark if you see this thread,Api have mentioned that anything near 300 and a full de-catted exhaust would kill it,and i was just wondering,cos dont want this to happen again after nearly a year,it was a healthy 296 before i put the exhaust on then after it was in the 320 mark,but the engine had done 56,000,miles and was tired,i've always ran it with super,and optimax plus octane,just wish mark was doing the rebuild.Anyway sorry for the long thread,many thanks for the replies,clive.

Sticky micky, you get your ecu remapped. You can but an aftermarket one and put that on your car and get it remapped or just map the one currently on your car. Obviously depending on what aftermarket ecu you buy, it will have different mapping possibilities.
Basically to map your standard ecu, take it to a tuning garage and they charge you about £300 to £400. Find out before you do it though cause some places take the ****! Wible just got stung by Power Engineering for over £700.

hi all i was wondering what would be the highest and safest bhp on a standard wrx98 engine?
The safest is probably going to be std factory spec.John Banks and myself are well over 400 bhp on standard UK/Jap internals with no reliability issues (except gearboxes
)Just make sure whoever sets it up knows exactly what they are doing otherwise like a number of others, your car will spend most of its life in the garage

Adam,
for that sort of horsepower, and reliability i would go for an uprated fuel pump, an uprated oil pump, front mounted intercooler and a bigger turbo (plus a remapped ecu), now thats if you want to do it properly and still have some bhp to play with
or else you could just go for a full decat exhaust, a tek 3 ecu, that sould give you around 270-280bhp with a TD04 turbo.
