Own a 97 impreza turbo,When going to overtake foot hard down get to about 3,500-4000 revs and the car just seems to stop as if hitting a wall, lunge forward and then picks up again as though hitting a rev limiter.Boost pressure reaches 15 psi any ideas anyone,
Cheers Gareth.

sounds like you have overboost!! the turbo is winding upto around 1.2bar, which causes fuel cut. if you have a controllable boost valve it needs to be backed off untill it stops cutting.

Was having the same problem with my MY96 WRX. Turned out the wastegate actuator had packed up which is apparently quite rare. Got it replaced with a second hand one (£20) and had a Dawes Device fitted to control the boost. Problem solved until you crank open the Dawes valve to much and then overboost occurs again!!

Cleaned out solenoid(and my eye ouch) with carb cleaner and seems to have done the trick so far,
Gareth.

I've just started with the exact same fault. i'm by no means mechanicly minded.. but i've been advised my dealer, at the last service, has overfilled the oil, causing it to build pressure/clog some breather/vacume pipe... (told you i know nothing about mechanics..)! can anyone shed any light on this..? **sorry to highjack your thread***..
