I have just purchased a '97 STI Type R. It has a HKS EVC4 boost controller on it. It used to boost up to 1.2bar but now it boosts up to 1.5bar and then the EVC4 cuts the boost off and returns you the 1.2level. The boost controller is still set to 1.2bar.
Does anyone think that because i have started to use Optimax ans millers booster that the ECU has now upped the available boost now to 1.5bar due to the improved fuel quality?
Any help would be great as I am new to scoobies and turbo's.

The ECU is not controlling the boost, the boost controller is. You need to check the boost controller settings and may need to set it up again, also check the physical installation of it and also consider the wastegate function - check not sticking etc. Check for hose leaks around the boost controller solenoid etc.
Your car is very likely to be dangerously detting at 1.5 bar. Get a knocklink and avoid using enough throttle to go over 1 bar until you get one and can sort the boost controller out IMHO.
