Am I right in thinking that if I fitted a smaller steering wheel in my MY99, it would turn the car quicker for a given movement, as well as feeling heavier (good thing IMO)?

If this is the case, what would be the difference by changing the steering rack instead?

Finally, is it easy enough to change given the incoporated airbag?

It will turn quicker as far as the distance you move your hands go, but won't turn any quicker for the same angle change. Which means if you keep your hands at the "quarter-to-three" position when driving the twisties you won't be able to turn any futher than before at the point where your hands cant move any further.

Changing the rack to a quicker on means the car will turn more for the same angle change in the wheel, so less turns to take the same corner.

The main problem with the airbag is the passenger side one, you cant just remove the bulb. I think a resistor across the terminals is the approach used to fool the ABS controller that the bag is still present. Make sure you know what you're doing though!

i would say that a stering wheel is defiantly better all round rather than a triangle or a square (remember the allegro "quartic" steering wheel? )
