Okay, it seems like most of you hate Forester owners but I'm going to ask anyway.
I have a 97 grey import S/TB Forester, and the simple question is
What is the BHP of it? The UK spec is about 170 but a LOT of posts are saying the jap import is 240 odd.
How do I know for DEFINITE what it is ?
Puurlleeaassee ?????

It should be , like you mention, around the 240 mark. There is one guy here posting as "butty" who i believe has the same model as yours and can help you out. Otherwise, test it with a boost gauge and if you're getting around 11-12 Psi then you have the real JDM Sti Forester.

George, God bless you.
Afraid I am a complete divvie so I dont know how to check out the boost or anything else for that matter.
I have to say it is fast as a fast thing so it may well be the 240 BHP.

I've just noticed the other thread of yours; Engine-wise they're completely the same with the exception of static compression which is (or was) higher on the foresters (UK,EU 8.5:1, StB: 9.0:1). Clutch is all the same but better get an uprated one such as AP or Helix, it would last longer.

George
P.S Don't think yours, is a detuned version either, its faster than a standard WRX!!!

George, you are a bit of a Godsend (assuming youre not winding me up that is - you could tell me anything and I wouldnt know the difference).
I've put out a post for butty and obi to see if they can point me in the right place too.
What is the 'JDM Sti' version and how do you know if you ve got that or not ???
Arent the AP clutches whole lot more money - what is AP by the way.
Thanks for the second time.

UK forester compression ratio is 8:1, not 8.5:1
I see you've found scoobynet as well as Nasioc! Unfortunately there's not much info around, but the guys on here should be able to help you out.

I've passed this onto Monkeyboy already but it may be of interest to others:

http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/product/index.html

Selct the Forester S/tb STi II option then select the BODY COLOUR & SEAT CLOTH selction.
At the bottom is a small window under Specifications. Click the .pdf file and hey presto, evrything you ever wanted to know about the old shape JDM Forester.
