Question

My STI7 seems to start 'reluctantly' first time most of the time. Only occasionally does it turn over for a couple of seconds before starting. Even less frequently it requires two attempts.

My question is 'Is this normal?'. Do Subaru engines 'burst' into life or simply catch and then settle at tickover slowly (after a second or so)??

Used to V8's and diesels so is this normal?

Cheers

My STi7 has always been a bad starter since new.

It hardly ever starts on the first attempt and then when it does start, it splutters reluctantly into life as if it's not firing on all cylinders to begin with.

The dealer has checked the car and found no problems and also fitted a new battery but this hasn't helped.

I've also heard that if you put on the ignition and wait a few seconds for the fuel pump to build up pressure, it can help but this doesn't work for me either.

Does this sound like your car?

BTW my previous MY98 Turbo always started instantly and really did burst into life!

Chris,

doesn't really sound the same. Mine starts 95% first time - but as you said doesn't 'explode' into life. It may catch on a couple of cylinders and then settle down on all four but as this takes half a second difficult to tell.

Not sure what to expect really - what do you other guys think?
