I have a MY2000 european Turbo,
Is it safe to remove the ABS fuse in this snowy weather (YES, It finally snows here in Antwerp and the whole city is in panic !!!)
I was told by my dealer not to do it because there are other electrical circuits on the ABS circuit too, but I don't believe him.
Just help me out here.... thanks,
Wally

Cool

If its the same as the UK97 setup, I don't believe him either. Assuming the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual are not lying.

Okay, I checked up on this last night. If you pull the correct fuse, nothing else suffers.

The correct fuse on the 97 is the 20A ABS one, third from front on bottom row of fusebox on right of drivers footwell. If you pull the other fuse marked up as ABS, the 15A one, you lose the indicators, at least, as well as ABS. The 15A will be the ABS Computer feed, the 20A one is the ABS pump. If you pull either fuse, the lack of ABS will be signified by a constant ABS warning light on the dash.

It should not affect f/r balance. The cars actual f/r balance will become more evident though, as abs wont be there to unlock athe rears if they doo lock a little earlier than the fronts. Maybe a car with EBD might have issues.

Moray is right, i pulled the 20 amp fuse for the ABS this morning before setting off to work, everything else worked fine, just had the ABS warning light up.
Mines a UK MY00 ....put the fuse back before leaving work this afternoon and all worked again.

Even Scoobies will slide now? You mean you think they don't slide on wet or even dry tarmac? Eek!

I enjoy driving in the snow. One could argue that it's free on-the-limit-handling practice at less than walking pace at times.

Sorry to go off topic.Moray, can you tell me how loud your exhaust is as I'm thinking of getting something similar. The easiest way would be to compare to well known brands ie SS,Hiper,Drager etc.
Cheers,Deep.

if anyone in an area where they're expecting to have to pull the fuse regularly i'd suggest they connect a switch in place of the fuse and put an inline fuse in place, then you can disengage/ engage it quickly as the biggest danger is the "haven't time now, i'll do it after this short journey to the shops" syndrome, a short journey in which you ineveitably either need abs and haven't got it or hit snow and can't stp because of the abs

Question

Is there somewhere on the wiring inside the cabin that a switch can be fitted so the ABS can switced on and off or is this a case of having to disable it under the bonnet (in the fuse box)and then run cables into the cabin?
